NATIONAL EVALUATION OF THE NATIONAL INDIGENOUS ENGLISH LITERACY AND NUMERACY PROGRAM (NIELNS)

This two year national evaluation was completed in 2003. The principal requirements of theNIELNS evaluation were the development of a classification of the NIELNS initiatives; synthesis, collation and analysis of quantitative and qualitative data to be used as the foundation for preparing biannual reports at State/Territory and national levels, and the major national report at the end of 2003; and 24 case studies, involving site visits to remote, regional and urban providers from which data collected will feed into national reports according to each of six key elements of the NIELNS.

A major evaluation report was provided to the Department of Education Science and Trainingwith recommendations for the further improvement of Indigenous literacy and numeracy.
